Message You are correct The lower spring pertch is very close to the upper control arm. So moving it directly inward would place it in contact with the arm. Thing is that it is only that close when the suspension is fully extended, which is how it would look if you jacked the car up and took the wheel off. However, if you put the wheel back on and slowly lower the car and watch the location of the spring pertch to the control arm as its lowering you will notice that due to the suspension geometry the spring mount raises up and away from the control arm. And in normal position when the car is sitting on the ground there is a large clearence between the two. So bringing the shock mount in and up by approximatly 1/8 an in you will clear at all times of suspension travel. If you just moved it directly inward there is a possiblility that the edge of the spring pertch would contact the edge of the upper control arm.
